For the birthday boy who loves dinosaurs, we created a fun Stegosaurus cake for him and his friends to devour. French Vanilla Cake with Hazelnut Buttercream, Chocolate Cake with White Chocolate Mousse, and don't forget those magical mushrooms—I taste-tested one, (you know, for quality control purposes) and they were delicious!
"Steg" the baby dinosaur was amazing to bring to life in the studio. He was four inches tall, green and covered in scales...not the usual qualities I look for...but he absolutely stole my heart!
Cake, royalty, and that extra wow-factor. That is how we helped this mother-to-be welcome Baby Zay into the world… we just happen to think it couldn't be any more perfect than that. Unless of course, you add in a dozen royal cupcakes as well. Congratulations on your new arrival, may he be as sweet as this cake ;-)
Our client for this blushing trio is a wedding planner (OMG, no pressure)…so we knew that this bridal shower was going to be, not only beautiful, but trendsetting. And whoa...were we right or what?! With the event affectionately christened Fifty Shades of Blush, we set out to create a set of cakes that would live up to the name. We kept it feminine—gorgeous flower details, intricate petal work and hand-painted, custom lettering. Add a little tailored ribbon for that parisian flair and a sprinkling of glittery gold, and we ended up delivering three delectable creations that are totally blush-worthy. "Affectionately called Fifty Shades of Blush, the brand new Silver Oaks Chateau provided the perfect backdrop for a Parisian-style, open flower market [bridal shower]. The blush and gold tones of the cakes by De la Creme Studio pulled together the tablescape and were just as sweet as the stationery by Paperkeet."
I'm happiest when there is something sweet within reach! It's true. Something about sugar translates to happiness in my brain—not the best news for my hips, mind you, because who wants to just look at sweet treats?! Having a sliced-open cake in the studio was probably not the smartest move (considering it is January and those New Year resolutions are still in the forefront of my mind), however, I really wanted to show you what goes into a De la Creme cake slice. So I made a second cake just for you guys (*sigh) oh, the sacrifices I'm willing to make :-) Be sure to scroll to the end of this post to see what goes on under the fondant here at De la Creme. And bring on the dessert tables…the more sweet, delicious treats, the better!
So, what goes into a slice of De la Creme cake (other than sugar and spice and all things nice)? Well, since we pay just as much attention to what goes on under the fondant as we do to creating masterpieces that wow your guests at first glance, even our slices are beautiful in their own rights (and after taste-testing way beyond what was actually necessary I can assure you, they taste pretty darn good too). Whether ordering one of our standard cakes or splurging on a premium cake (like the Chocolate Raspberry Amaretto example below), you get four layers of cake and three layers of filling all nestled under a snug coat of buttercream and fondant...and a whole lot of happiness free of charge :-)
